May 2019 Newsletter
May 23rd, 2019
Another school year is coming to a close, and in every classroom, students are looking forward to the next step in their learning journey—from preschool to college and career. In our May newsletter, we focus on the value of higher education and honor the teachers who help students reach their dreams. Here are a few highlights:
- We’re lucky to have such a talented educator workforce, and we let it be known during Teacher Appreciation Week—but teachers really deserve our full support and gratitude every single day. Read stories from the classroom and get more insight from Washington’s regional teachers of the year in this year’s edition of From Seed to Apple.
- In the face of mounting student debt, and with many college grads still financially dependent on family, more people are asking the question, “what is college worth?” To help answer, the Gates Foundation is teaming up with the Institute for Higher Education Policy to launch the Commission on the Value of Postsecondary Education.
- Each year, the Education Writers Association (EWA) Conference brings together journalists from across the country to share ideas and inform media coverage that can have a real impact on public policy and in the classroom. You can read a roundup of key moments from this year’s event at the EWA blog.
