What do you know about poverty?

September 24th, 2019

For this month’s Washington State update, we’re breaking from the newsletter norm and asking our friends an important question: “What do you know about poverty?”

For nearly 20 years, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has been working with partners dedicated to strengthening our local region’s response systems for families in crisis, whether they’re at-risk of falling into homelessness, or actually experiencing homelessness. Even in the most challenging of circumstances, we believe the problems of poverty are solvable. We’ve seen progress—but this must drive us to continued and sustained action.

That’s why together with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Gates Foundation’s U.S. Economic Mobility & Opportunity team are issuing a Grand Challenge: we’re seeking creative, compelling ideas from diverse voices to broaden the national conversation about the nature of poverty and economic mobility.

We hope you’ll share your experience and expertise through Voices for Economic Opportunity, a new call for ideas about how we can collectively shift away from the inaccurate and harmful narratives about poverty in the U.S. Learn more and join us.
